What is on your workout playlist?
If I don’t have music to work out too I always find my sessions so much harder. I need a beat to work to and something to help keep my mind occupied when I need to power through pain! On my playlist at the moment, I have a bit of old school with a firm favourite being Whitney Houston. I’m also loving The Weeknd, Usher, Justin Bieber and Rick Ross – I have to listen to Rick Ross when I’m training legs!
What is on your daily menu?
I constantly like to mix things up, so I don’t really have a daily menu, more daily ingredients. My general go-to food items are sweet potato, tuna, avocado, sourdough bread, porridge, chickpeas, peas and chicken. I’m also obsessed with spicy food, so chilli and ginger are staple ingredients!
What are your rest day treats?
I don’t actually have “treat” or “cheat” days, I believe if you dedicate yourself to one treat or one day off you’ll end up restricting yourself for the rest of the week, and that’s no fun. Also, with a bit of reverse psychology coming into play here, if I tell myself not to have something I can almost guarantee I will crave it non-stop until I have it - I’m basically a child! I always try to eat intuitively, listening to my body, focusing on how it feels and how much exercise in a day. Everything in moderation, a little bit of what you like does you good.
What are your favourite workout moves?
Leg Press - you can do wide leg, narrow leg or one-footed feet to hit different muscles, and you get to sit down too!
Jumping lunges - they work up a sweat very quickly and seriously burn when you’re doing them, but you get results. They’re great to add into a superset too.
Deadlifts - as they’re a compound exercise, resulting in a full body workout in one lift.
What is your motivation?
My motivation comes from so many different places. I am very fortunate to have a big community of women supporting me daily through my social channels, and if I ever feel like giving up I’ll see an amazing message which will make me want to keep going. I also rely on my Protein World pre-workout to help get my endorphins going.
How do you handle your busy schedule?
You have to be organised. I decided to stop my day job of being a personal trainer as I always try to commit 100% to my time to them, and I couldn’t do that and run my own brand. I’ve been working on two big projects recently, one which I can’t talk about just yet, but the other is a fitness plan which is out now! I’m hoping the plan will give my followers the chance to understand what it feels like to train with me, by providing them with a comprehensive workout guide to use at their leisure. If I’m being honest, it’s taken a lot to time to get to grips with everything happening in under a year. I am still learning new things on a daily basis, and sometimes it does get a bit too much, but I’m also very lucky that my boyfriend will help me organise myself.
How do you think social media has changed the fitness industry?
When I was younger I played a lot of sport, and others in my age group wouldn’t hesitate to comment negatively on my appearance, telling me I looked really athletic or muscular. At the time though, the image presented on social media was 6ft tall, tiny waisted girls which gave the impression that this was #goals. This was the unrealistic expectation you should have aimed towards, so it’s no wonder negativity came from it. I think social media has given “normal” people the platform to create a positive change for women and bring more awareness to fitness and healthy living. It allowed different shapes and sizes in the health industry to show that no one image is perfect.
What fitness/health tips would you recommend to someone new to the world of exercise and fitness?There is no short-term fix, make small changes each day. At first, you need to make the decision to just get your body moving. Walk as much as you can and start off with at-home workouts to build up your confidence, then if you can join a gym and try following a programme. Also, don’t forget everyone was new to the gym at some point, and everyone has to start somewhere - the key is just not giving up.
What are your ambitions for the future?
I hope to work on other projects to help lots of women achieve a positive mind and body attitude. As I am also a trained make-up artist, it has been a massive part of my life and I feel that make-up (and beauty) and fitness come as a pair. I really think beauty starts from within and when you look after your body from the inside it will show on the outside. I train so I can be the best version of myself. The same with makeup, I feel you should enhance what you have already. So, I would love to create this concept in a beauty line and one day bring out my own makeup range to make woman feel empowered and beautiful by just being the best versions of themselves.
